Unfortunately like many things in Australia, there's nothing that's the same everywhere and each "city" has its own rules. We got fined in Stirling for parking in the median in front of our driveway, yet there were no signs for it. Friends do it in other suburbs without any issues.

There was a discussion a while ago about how it can be argued that the fine received is disportional to the potential loss the Council/Wilsons sees - on another forum. I'll see if I can find it, however there was someone who went to great lengths with letters as a result to Wilsons proving illegality. Don't recall the outcome but doubt it has changed.

Yep that's what I'd do if I needed to park in a Wilson's car park if I had incurred a fine with that same plate. I have an outstanding "fine" but is on my old Forester that has since been sold (before I knew of the fine - I never got a parking "fine" on my windscreen). Essentially, they can only charge liquidated damages so I was in my spot for about 20 mins longer than my ticket was for, so the most they can ask me to pay is 1/3rd of an hours parking... I have received letters from them and I have also had a letter from a debt collection agency which is likely Wilson-related. They can take me to court but they will only get a couple of bucks from me. Courts hate them so Wilson's won't bother.

can they file a default notice for non payment? would be a shame to ruin your credit rating for a shitty parking fine

Easiest way to find out the parking restrictions in the council your visiting is to either check out their website, or email them.
For instance, In Subiaco, there are a lot of MC Bays, but for whatever reason, they are rarely used...

for those who don't know, you can use the reply paid address on the wilson's envelope and write this on any blank envelope or package (doesn't need to be the preprinted one), and post it to them. Wilson's pay postage. They sent me an interesting letter and I replied to them probably 200+ times, including some stuff which I thought they would also find interesting - several months worth of coles/toys r us/etc junk mail with some great bargains. Some funny shaped bits of broken tiles which I found at a house build down road. Some used brake pad with some strange striations in the sintered material.

I live in Vic Park. It is most likely gonna get you done if you park in a car spot or on the footpath. The parking guys are quite nice about it, on a couple of occassions I have been advised to move the bike or risk getting a penalty.

Vic Park though does provide lots of bike bays (to their credit).

    Regarding Wilson Parking:-

Wilson Parking has been chasing me since September 2015 for parking on the footpath at a shopping centre as I couldn't find any MC bays.

I am at the debt collection agency stage now - had many letters from them including a "telegram", just continue to ignore.

I have heard they won't give up for at least a couple of years.

As stated by others - they do not have any power to hurt your credit or enforce the fine. They can put you on the naughty list and clamp you though.

Handy to carry a portable angle grinder for these reasons.

There was a chap in Inglewood saving distressed motorists in that manner though, maybe a year or so ago. Wore a green suit. The hero we need....
