If you're looking at GPS trackers with mobile data just make sure that you don't get an overseas 2g unit, the 2g network is being decommissioned in Oz.

Munich sells parts and Thorsten next door is a mechanical service. I use both of them.

who doesn't have an old phone at home?
    http://tasker.wikidot.com/locatephone
My old sony will go almost 3 days without a charge if left in cell only mode and nothing else running and is water proof already.

Means even if they disconnect the bike battery the GPS will still fire, and no data required.

Just need a thread on how to de-construct an old mobile so we can shove the camera somewhere hidden and see whats going on!

Edit: could possibly write a motion sense SMS task into it as well!!
if i knew how to write these things

I bought one for the Supra, $65AUD on a group buy on performance forums. They can be had pretty cheap. Should have gotten two. Will try find the details of it but pretty sure it was 3/4g.

Buy a bike with an electronically-keyed ignition as others have recommended.

Get good insurance - read the product disclosure statement before taking out the policy.

Use a disc lock or chain - maybe they'll steal the bike you've parked next to that doesn't have one.

Park wisely - Don't park in areas known for bike theft.

This is the main thing - you can do many things to TRY to prevent bike theft, but if they really want it, they'll take it. Best to make sure you have decent insurance.

I have to ask - how much does bike insurance cost - I've never insured a bike in my life.

    Depends on:-

    Bike
    Year of bike
    Age of rider
    Experience of rider

Cost me less than $200 for full comprehensive on a $13K bike more than 40 years experience. I know of people who pay 1/3 of the value of their bike annually for less coverage.
Life seems more precious when there's less of it to waste.

Every case is different, depending on bike/age/experience/driving record/company etc
Then there is the issue of how good they are when it comes time to a claim! ie my partners sister in Adelaide is having a shit fight at the moment with YOUI

Her 3 month old new car was rear ended a couple of weeks ago and apparently there is chassis damage and creases to the roof from the impact and yet despite a new for old replacement in the first year under the policy the assessors and approved repairer are lowballing the costs and trying to say it can be repaired rather than writing it off and replacing it

Leave an empty gun holster on the seat. Let the oxygen thieves worry about where the contents are.

Don't park at a police station or across the road from a court house. Thieves need to get home after having their hand lightly slapped with a wet noodle.

Park at a church. They are only interested in stealing your virginity there, not your bike.

Buy a Ducati. If it get's stolen, it will be just around the corner with the thief trying to repair it.

Buy a Gold wing. Because the average 15 year old hasn't a hope in hell of getting it off the centre stand.

So that's anywhere between Yanchep and Mandurah?
