    Supermoto

I think it's time that I try out some supermoto racing. I haven't thrown my leg over a dirt bike since I was a kid. I expect it'll be a very foreign feeling which will take some time to get used to so I want something that is road registered so I can ease myself in to it.
I know each bike will feel different but I'm sure I won't feel comfortable on any to start with so I'ld like to hear suggestions. What bike/s should I be looking at?
Also, what are the essential parts/mods I should add before giving it a go? (e.g. 16" rims instead of 17", slipper clutch, suspension, madtercylinder). I just want to know what I will NEED, not what will improve it. If I really dislike it then it'll probably only be used once

I haven't got a dollar figure I'ld like to spend but the more money left in my wallet the better

    Something like this?

    https://www.perthstreetbikes.com/for...d.php?t=186072

add 17's, try it out. Slipper next.

If you are ancient, get a bone density test I was OK in my 40's but late 50's hard landings break things. Supermoto is fun

Well set-up bike. Basically ready to race.
Can be registered too so you can "Practice".

Yep that WR450 is a good starter, and race ready minus the wheels, but yes back to dirt trim, however still carrying the rear shock setup for 115kg rider
I still have a set of rims I 'could' be persuaded to let go, but as Azazl can attest, I'm reluctant

    To get going you need:
Wheels: dirt wheels with 'bigfoot' tyres, or go 17 inch wheels. 16.5" is only good for racing, and you can't get DOT approved 16.5" tyres.
Brakes: Get a 320mm disc and offset adaptor for standard brake. Get a radial master cylinder from an R6, R1, ZX10 etc...
Suspension: recommend at the very least doing static sag, full suspension setup will cost around $1500
Slipper: Ridden 2 stroke? Understand how to feed/feel a clutch? if so, then you don't need it yet. I have a slipper I might sell but they're not cheap either :p $800ish second hand. up to $1500 new.
Protection: Axle sliders and peg sliders

After that it's just whatever you want for fun and noise

Supermotos feel a bit wierd but a dirt bike rider can adapt quickly, I reckon a slipper clutch would be important to get used to.

the corning on a motard vs dirt is a bit different but i found my corner speed got better on the dirt after a few months on the tard, going from dirt/tard to superbike was weird, never though i would get use to leaning so far forward and took a while to figure out corner technique, just like anything time and practice works wonders

Kingy, Get on the SupermotoWA facebook page, the guys down at Steves Motorcycles can do a pretty good deal on conversion kits (rims, tyres, sliders catchcan etc.) cant go wrong with any road reg bike. KTM exc, Yammie WR or honda CRFX, of course the mx bikes will be more competitive, but the road reg are a lot more versatile. and can still keep up.
