Does MotoGP need a combined bike/rider weight limit?

There's 2 things you can add weight to: 1. to the rider and/or 2. to the bike. Both increase the effort required and in such a physical sport that involves tipping a bike in and picking it up repeatedly, I don't think the minimum weight rule is as clear cut as say, for the F1 example they give. The driver is not having to rotate the car with their own body each time they turn; it's more of a passive, dead weight.

As said, Dani might fly on the straights but he's disadvantaged in corners as he doesn't have the body weight to get under the bike to assist flicking it from side to side as easily (and wings further reduce this ability). To add weight to either their body or bike is just going to make it harder for the pint sizes, and unfairly tire the rider more.

I'm a lightweight and I notice the weight difference between a 600 and a thou (granted the difference is magnified by me being as weak as piss [motogp riders are not]). My 06 R1 (vs 600s) was comparatively a barge. I say if you're the optimum weight/height through genetics, lucky you. If you're pint-sized or normal human size (e.g. Scott Redding is a giant in the bike world but he is only 78kg) that's just the way it is. It's the genetics lottery. You can standardise bikes with control tyres etc., but I think in such a physical sport that involves using strength to shift the object you are racing, you can't apply minimum weights. Next basketball will have a maximum height so as not to advantage one over the other.

MotoGP™ remains on Network 10 in Australia for 3 more years
Dorna Sports is delighted to announce a three-year contract extension with Network 10, ensuring fans Down Under will continue to get world class, free-to-air coverage of the world’s fastest motorcycle racing Championship, MotoGP™.

Fans watching on Network 10 will continue to enjoy the MotoGP™ race from every round live and free-to-air on One – with live streaming also available at www.tenplay.com.au – and over the Australian GP weekend there will also be special coverage, with the qualifying session and race for every category shown live. Daryl Beattie – a multiple Grand Prix winner and premier class Championship runner-up – will chair proceedings for the network, presenting from 10 studios and adding pre-race and post-race expert analysis.

Network 10’s Head of Sport, Matt White, said: “Australian motorsport fans deserve to see this incredible racing category live and free and we are delighted to extend our broadcast deal with Dorna Sports for another three years. This deal further demonstrates Network 10’s commitment to premium sport.”

Network 10’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Anderson, said: “The MotoGP World Championship is part of our DNA and has proudly been on our Network for the past 21 years. MotoGP provides some of the most dramatic motor racing vision in the world and is a key plank in our motorsport strategy. We have an incredible partnership with Dorna Sports and are very excited to be partnering once again and remaining the free to air home of motorsport in Australia.”

Manel Arroyo, Managing Director of Dorna Sports, added: “It’s great news that MotoGP will remain on Network 10 in Australia, continuing our long and successful partnership that is now in its third decade. Network 10 provide excellent coverage of the World Championship and are valuable collaborators with whom we are delighted to continue working, so three more years is great news for Aussie fans and great news for MotoGP.”

After another incredible race weekend Down Under in 2018, the countdown to Phillip Island now resets for another year and 2019 appears on the horizon as MotoGP™ heads for the season finale at Valencia.

I was about to have a whinge about not getting 3 races but then I realized we should be grateful. We could end up losing the races altogether like last week when there was no cricket on free to air, it could happen.

You should be justified in whinging about not getting all three races and qualifying. One of my fondest memories as a child was being able to stay up on a Sunday night to watch all the races and the qualifying the night before. And what we do get is basically a 2 hour rolling commercial break with snippets of the race. The brief time they telecast the three races on OneHD and things were looking promising, until they abandoned the OneHD sport only format.

Network 10 feels it better to broadcast a pack of arseholes crying while making food (Masterchef) or the story of true love that exists between one man and 24 women (The Bachelor).

Fuck Network 10, I hope the entire board of directors die in a house fire.

I just enjoy being able to watch the race on my terms, which as a nightshifter, usually means hours after the race.

Videopass is worth it almost solely just for that.

Just wish it'd play nicer with the Chromecast.

You must be really young? From my memory qualifying was only shown for a couple of seasons and that was like 5 years ago?

The race is pretty much uninterrupted, except for ONE commercial break. Luckily its not on channel 10 cos we would then have 10 breaks.

I agree that seeing all 3 races has merit...I guess its part of the reason Rossi has such a following, People just followed him up thru the classes.

AS for the board of directors....they need to make the stations profitable and if people prefer to watch 1 woman date 24 men then so be it. Be happy that you do get the race and its live and free!

I doubt Ten will be showing the MotoE.

Im keen to see how quickly DePuniet can destroy one. Think the only way he can beat his MotoGP record is to bin it on the sighting lap.

    ^ That's not bad!

Although it says it's in beta.
    What's the streaming quality like?
What commentators do you get? Official? Some local broadcaster stream?

But not good value for me as I'm not interested in most of it.

I'm waiting for NBN in Jan as i struggle to stream atm, but a couple mates are using Kayo and rate it. It's the fox sports channels i believe, so should get the same stream as foxtel does?
