    2018 MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3 discussion (spoilers)

2018 starts on Tuesday with testing.

Factory contracts are up for renewal in 2018.

    Will Rossi continue?

Will Honda re-sign Pedrosa? Or will he opt to look at another Factory?

What Yamaha machinery will Zarco be riding?

    Can Lorenzo improve his results?

Will Yamaha get the M1 sorted?

How much of a pay rise will Dovi negotiate for?

How will ex-Honda men Jack Miller and Tito Rabat go on Ducatis?

Can Scott Redding do anything on the Aprilia?

Can KTM be fighting for top 6 on a regular basis like Pol Espargaro predicts?

    Who will replace Nick Harris?

Morbidelli moving up from Moto2 to join the Marc VDS MotoGP team and Nakagami joining Crutchlow at LCR.

I think Rossi will sign a one year deal with an option for a second year.

Julian Ryder perhaps replacing Nick Harris? Or one of the other BT Sport guys.

I don't think it will be Julian Ryder.

I figured that Steve Day was going to be nicks replacement. He's commentating the moto2/3 races and already in the press conferences, he also was DORNAs guy at the press conference with the factory team leaders.
It sounds like KTM are going to make a serious play for Zarco. He deserves a factory ride. I think KTM is going to have success without a doubt, whether it will come next year with the two riders they have now I'm not so sure of. Zarco and Folger have shown how Pol and Smith underperformed at tech 3. It's possible those two will do the same thing at KTM.
Lorenzo will win at least one race next year, if Ducati can give him more corner speed he could be a title threat.
I have no idea what's going to happen with Rossi and Pedro, Yamaha have the perfect replacement for Rossi in Zarco but it sounds like the choice is Rossi's regardless of what happens next year. Honda at this stage don't have a clear choice for a Pedrosa replacement unless Morbidelli is amazing next year.
I think Miller will do better on the GP17, his '16 Honda was still by all accounts harder to ride.
Scott Redding will do nothing on the Aprilia.
Yamaha look totally lost, Rossi or Vinales don't sound like they know what's going on so they will probably suffer next year.

Interesting we constantly hear that the Honda is terrible and has all these shortcomings, yet it's won the constructors championship every year since 2011 (except 2015). And keeps on winning world championships

At the start of the year, the Honda seemed like the worst bike on the grid, but then they fixed the acceleration issues theu were having amd thimgs greatly improved for them. Coupled with Marquezs ability to not give a shit about a bikes shortcomings has helped with their results.

If they didn't have Marc riding around their problems, Honda wouldn't have those constructors championships.

Interesting that's since 2011 they've had Stoner or Marquez on the bike.

Honda started as probably the worse of the 3 bikes but during the season I would say now it is at worst on par with Ducati at some tracks and better on others. I still think that the satellite riders on the 2016 bike are showing how good Marquez's win over Yamaha was last year. It's easy to forget that Honda started this year with a completely new bike and it took them some time to get it sorted. I expect Marquez will hard to beat every year if Honda keep improving.

I guess the electronics and tyres screwed them at the start of 2016, then the new big bang engine got them early on this year.

Testing is "starting" now - although the track is cold so they're waiting for a bit.

    Yes, Gavin would be awesome.
Great guy - did a top job - would love to see him come back.

How long is MM locked into Honda? Would love to see him jump on a 2019 KTM and silence all the “win with two different factories to be a goat” critics.

Just do it. Seriously, if you look up the standing rules of PSB it goes something like this.

    1. Dont be a dick
    2. Desmo is allowed to be a dick (sometimes)
    3. Buy the one with the most Duke
    4. Dont ask about fixing the search function.
    etc etc..

From his interview with BT Sport after winning the title in 2016.

Gavin Emmett: Would you ever consider a change of manufacturer like Valentino has done before, like Jorge is doing next year?

Marquez: At the moment honestly no. Also in the future you never know. You cannot say no I will never change because you never know but at the moment my motivation, my feeling is stay with Honda. Always I will follow my heart. If my heart says stay here, I will stay here. If my heart says you need another motivation I will change of course. But at the moment Honda is my family and I feel very good here.

According to David Emmet - KTM has been in talks with Zarco for a fair bit of time now and it almost sounds like it's a done deal. KTM have also been talking to MarcVDS about them running a satellite team with Oliveira and Binder positioned to get the rides for 2019.

Johann Zarco coming second on day one of the test on a 2017 spec M1. Only beaten by Vinales on 2016 chassis/2018 engine prototype.

If anyone heard the interview with Herve during testing, he isn't happy about the strong chance he will lose his Yamaha association if Rossi decides to have a GP team. He did say they have a contract stating that no new teams can enter the class until 2021.

Satellite Suzuki would be ok if they get their development back on track.
