I prefer they fix up the opposite-sex marriage laws before they build on it... but more power to 'them/they/xe/womyn'.

Namely child custody, divorce law etc.

Not that I plan on battling out any of that in court, I just see the laws bias against men and I wonder how the law is going to treat women/women or men/men couples heading to the divorce court. I'd assume 'equally', in which case it does seem like systemic discrimination against men in heterosexual marriage/divorce.

Hmmm. Only 60% I expected more.

Geographically, the result is heavily skewed by them dang city folk. Outside the cities it is either borderline (close to 50/50) or against.

A lot of noise about a 'bias against men' in the law but never a good explanation of where it is.

No, they are not obliged to do anything. But they promised that they would change the marriage act, if there was an overwhelming support for SSM. Politicians promised....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! And they never broke one either...

Seriously tho...they are now suppose to debate and bring a resolution to parliament, to amend the marriage act. Then they are going to do what they should have been doing before this whole debacle started, their job and vote on those amendments.

To me, the whole postal vote was just a distraction in order to delay the inevitable. A whole lot of money wasting and stirring up fear towards a minority. Politicians of all parties should be hanging their head in shame, for being spineless pricks and morons. And it should start with the, quite frankly, disappointing prime minister. Nothing prime about that idiot.

This should have been a debate for a couple of hours in parliament, every politician agree we should not be discriminating against a minority, table a few versions of the amended act and then do their job and vote on it. It should not have been longer than a day. And presto, no massive expense, no attacks on anyone of either side of the fence and we can all move on...

Thats because the law as written says it all starts on equal footing and works its way back. The reality is a different thing altogether.

Dont want to hijack the thread so will make one last comment.

Had a read and the fathers claim is spot on, and could be based on my own personal experience with the family court. And yet exactly as you have mentioned and rebutted by the judge there is no quantifiable proof of it happening. Except for the thousands of cases every single day.
I vote yes for a non-binding public vote into family court equality, bugger 52% will say no because they are the ones who currently benefit.

    Time on, play ball....

Nah, there is honour and street cunning among crooks, just a sense of entitlement in Canberra.

So Turnbull wasted $120 million of OUR money to be told what everyone already knew from dozens of other polls. All for no other reason I can fathom than pandering to other conservative/religious members of the Liberal party.

Elevated the voices of the bigoted, set them up on equal footing with those promoting fundamental human rights, gave them a platform to attack an already marginalised section of the community. Just to delay the inevitable for a few more months.

Fuck him, the spineless, characterless old gray man that he is. As the baby boomers die I hope the younger generation do not forget these pathetic and desperate acts when they vote.
