Little? FOUR demerit points! and a $400 fine..

No problem with the rule itself but I can see W@nker p@lice giving infringements because they can.

I also don't have much of a problem with pack riding but once they see they are holding up cars they should let the cars thru.

Showing some basic courtesy surely isn't asking for too much.

So cyclists don't want to ride on bike paths because they can't go as fast as they want and have to give way to pedestrians... they're too good for that and claim it's in the name of safety.

So they ride on the road and try to impose the same on all other road users. Fuck em, the sanctimonious, arrogant cunts.

Car Driver: Boo hoo hoo, motorbike riders don't want <insert name of crash protection> at racetracks. Fuck em, the sanctimonious, arrogant cunts.

See, the only problem with sharing is that there's always some group that feels more entitled than another...

Riding on footpaths has only been legal since last year. Cycle on a shared use footpath at 45km/h past a pedestrian walking at 5km/h and see what they say. Here's a hint - they don't love it.

Stress less and preach tolerance on the roads folks - it'll help you live longer in a whole manner of ways.

When, (some) cyclists afford the same courtesy to to others that they demand then they will, mostly, be treated fairly.

I have yet to see one ride at a safe speed past me and my dog on the Bayswater shared path. Most are in a certain age range...almost all of them are male and every one of them is an arrogant prick.. ask them to slow down they give a mouthful of abuse and keep peddling...just as well probably...I dont fancy facing court for kicking one of them in the nuts.

So I am not in favour of giving them any more legal rights as they dont give a fuck about mine.

    Get stuffed (nicely).

If a motorist tells you to slow down on your motorbike, would you? When we're out on PSB LNRs or whatever and local residents tell us to fuck off and not come down their road ever again, would you?

You have no legal right to ask them to slow down on a shared path. They have no legal obligation to do so. And your comments make the issues facing riders all the more apparent - not welcome on footpaths, shared paths, or the road!

Sad that this had to be brought in, there's quite a few roads around Perth that passing safely is going to be a pain in the arse.

Patience and courtesy are going to be required. If some good comes out of it and drivers in Perth learn better driving habits then all fine well and good.

That having been said, with a straight face and no sarcasm - trust me it was hard, I can't see how it's going to work, enforcing it is going to be a nightmare, if a cop pings someone for less than a metre, hopefully the the offending driver doesn't roll over and take the fine and points up the arse, but takes it to court and their lawyer will have a field day with the cop who wrote the ticket, first question to the cop will be "How did you measure the distance?"

They are supposed to ring their bell when approaching pedestrians and have to give way to them. Tee hee.

    From Bicycling WA website;

    SHARE OUR PATHS
Remember that pedestrians have right of way at all times on a footpath or shared path.

SLOW DOWN - Ride to the prevaling conditions. Slow down on footpaths and allow pedestrians right of way

RING YOUR BELL - Let pedestrians know you are there by ringing you bell or politely calling out

PASS WITH CARE - Pass pedestrians with care and consideration. Give them plently of space when passing

Wouldn't this part of the law cover cyclists undertaking?

    * Cyclists - Canít ride less than 2m behind a vehicle

I read there is an exemption that allows cyclists to overtake on the left. They don't have to comply with the 1 metre minimum separation within the lane. A consequence is that they wont be "behind" the vehicle (requiring a 2 metre separation) but beside it.

So yes, it is legal for them to come up to traffic lights on the left in front of all the traffic they held up trying to pass them further back.

It is legal for them to take off and block. Own the lane. Give the collective finger to the cagers.

The upside is more laughs watching the meltdowns from drivers that can't handle having to wait.

I think if they are on the road they need rego. Simply for ID purposes.

It is so easy to do anything you like on a treadly then ride off into the sunset.

so at the moment on indian ocean drive the main problem is people not waiting for old gramps in his subaru forrester towing the 4.5T caravan doing 85 in the 110 zone for a safe passing spot.
causing all sorts of line ups and frustrating leading to overtaking on hills and corners with two big white lines down the centre.

these meltdowns are directly causing deaths. and this cyclist laws are now creating a mini indian ocean drive conundrum in the whole metro area.

so much for the upside huh?
