I work full time, run a side business, work for Surfing WA, study part time and just got married. Unfortunately bikes will be a thing when I am 40 most likely.

    Tl;Dr Nope
Fair enough, got to admit I was off MC's for around 11 years after meeting the missus and doing the house/kid/work thing but I already had the R licence by then and had owned a big bike prior to that

I suppose with LAMS at least you don't need to put up with a tiny 250cc bike anymore which given my size was more about the comfort than outright power Still I thought given how long you've been riding you may have at least got the upgraded licence, just less fucking around given the changes they keep making

I probably would have been happy enough with the XR600 I wanted but couldn't have due to the 250cc restriction back then which necessitated getting my K (R) class as it was Having the licence doesn't mean you need the bike

In all honesty, I have ridden a handful of R class bikes, and still just want a 390 duke. Im not a big guy, long legs and thats about it. I rode a 1000cc sports bike once and I felt like I used maybe 10% of what it had, and thats probably being generous in my favour.

My chicken shit riding doesn't need or deserve much.

Quick post to voice that I too think that removing the R Test is not wise.

It was a great refresher, plus they did slightly more advance skills testing i.e. swerve around parked cars type of EStops etc....

I accept its expensive to administer and the contribution to the road toll may not be significant... But for a few bullet proof minded riders, it served its purpose.
    Its all good on Ducati's

So what's the story "Stoneville" or anyone, you got a link to the DOT Official documentation, for the Change to R Class licensing - 1st July 2018 ???????

From July 1st 2018, people who have had their RE license for more than 24 months will be automatically upgraded to the R. This means if you have done your RE license less than 24 months you will have to wait.

The rules donít change till the July 1st so anyone that has had your license for over 12 months or would have it for 12 months before July 1st, you can upgrade your license and avoiding waiting an extra 12 months.

So unless you want to have to wait the full 24 months, or part thereof, GO DO YOUR R TEST NOW

This changes in this thread never happened, however the rules did change in November but the opposite direction this thread was suggesting

    https://www.perthstreetbikes.com/for...d.php?t=188051

TL;DR, more tests, higher pass mark, longer waits, not automatic upgrade to R

This thread really needs to be closed or the first post modified to point to the new rules which actually came into effect.

People keep finding the thread from Google and unfortunately most of the information in here is outdated or misinformed.

    So:
    - New HPT specifically for R-N/E
    - Minimum 6 month initial wait for HPT
    - Still pass the 6 month wait for a practical and logbook if you have a car license
    - 1 year wait changed to 2 year wait for R practical

tl;dr: more time to learn how not to fuck up on R bike I suppose.

I got my R-E in March 2018. Does this mean I need to wait until March 2020?
