Hi, my name is Alex Heritage.
I don't know if this is the place to post it but it can't hurt to try.
Yesterday I lost my job due to becoming to "too expensive to keep".
I'm a cabinet maker, about to be qualified I just have this last unit of Tafe.
I can run cncs and edgebanders with no issues.
I have my forklift ticket.
I can fully build and install a kitchen/bathroom/anywhere boxes go.

I hope to find work fast, as I can't afford not to work now.

I am willing to do any kind of work, and am willing to travel anywhere to do it. Even if it is just odd jobs, any income is ideal right now.

Alex, if you are an apprentice you should contact the Apprentiship board for assistance straight away, they may be able to assist you in your rights with current employer and possibly re-placement to another company to finish your time

First. Contact Centrelink TOMORROW. You pay your taxes so it's there to help you when you need it. This is your backup plan, but it's better to organise it now, than organise it when your bank statement says $0.00. If you get a job next week you can easily contact them to cancel.
Don't make the mistake of chewing through your meagre savings because of some sense of pride and then finding yourself completely fucked.

If some people live on Centrelink their whole life, why can't a tax paying, hard worker who's down on his luck get help for a few weeks while he looks for a job?

Second, I'd be contacting fair work Australia to see if what your company did was legal.

A quick search nets lots of hits, this is a list of advertised roles that state "experienced" in their title as opposed to "qualified". And only going back 10days worth of adverts.

Apply for them all anyway, as you never know. The answer to the question you never ask is always going to be no.

FWIW...Newstart allowance is only $538 per fortnight. You're better off finding work.

yeah, good on ya...so did I, for longer. It sucked balls.

+1 this, there are shitloads of casual forkies jobs out there especially if you are flexible with your times.

As I understand it, an apprenticeship is still a labour & training employment contract between you and the employer via the apprenticeship board, im sure its probably been watered down over the years but there its still an obligation for you and them. There is a correct way to get out of it but even if thats been followed to the letter ( i think it has to be applied for and mutual??) then the apprenticeship board should have some obligations there also because everybody wants to see apprentices finish their training and get recognised as tradesman.

If true, that really sucks. But hot damn, you have more qualifications/skills than me. I know me saying that doesn't help you, but you've got a fighting chance.

If you're desperate, try getting short-term work doing phone surveys. It is pretty easy to get a start if they're hiring.

My sister has worked for years for an outfit called Thinkfield. She doesn't hate it...
