So for fast paced hills runs you would likely need a fully faired or half faired bike or modified naked bike. Commuting you want something in a more upright position, rather than a crouched supersport position.

    Fully faired bikes:
Triumph Sprint 1050 would be very capable, although it isn't available as a new bike, there is some very good second hand ones around.
Honda VFR800 or 1200, possibly also the Suzuki GSXS1000 or Kawasaki Ninja 1000
Any supersport (600/675) or Superbike (900-1100) would work as well, but will have a very sporty seating position.

    Half Faired bikes:
Yamaha MT-09TR, Yamaha FZ6/8/1 all come in half faired versions.

    Naked bikes
    Yamaha XSR900, MT-09, MT-10
    Kawasaki Z100/Z750
    Suzuki GSXS1000/750
    Honda CB900/1000

Otherwise you could also find some second hand Ducati's 958/959, Aprilia Tuono's, or lots of others as well.

Realistically you should find a seating position you are comfortable with (upright - Naked, semi crouched - sport, crouched - supersport) and then start refining your options from there.

Ed Zachary. In the US you can ride whatever you want when you acquire your licence from the back of a cereal box - I'd say the death rate is at least marginally less than 100%.
A bike is only as fast as you twist the throttle. Had my CBR600 on the track, decided to track my R1 - my lap times didn't differ as it was me in control of it and what pace I felt comfortable doing. I don't think a re-test really achieves anything other than to ensure you're on your best behaviour for half an hour.

He was probably in the front of a line of bikes where you were at the back, obviously makes him a winner as he must be faster

I, for one, much prefer the 675 engine over a jap 600 for street cruising / commuting.

Having followed a few and hearing them pull away from me i agree a great looking bike especially the sports model in white, i hadn't realized they were a triple to today.

I have a '16 S1000R that I may consider selling. If you've been on a LNR in the last year and seen a loud white S1KR, then that's the one. If you want something that'll loft the front effortlessly, then I couldn't think of a better bike
