Bargain (or interesting) Cars Spotted in the classifieds.

On a similar vein to the Bargain Bikes Spotted thread here's one for cars, either bargain, rare, unique or crazy.

I'll start it off with this one, it's up in Broome and if I had the room for it, I would have it tomorrow.

They where known to be shit when new, can't see how age could have done any favours for its reliability. But cool find.

They are becoming very rare, and some pristine examples go for triple that. I hear what you are saying about the reliability though as a little 700cc boxer motor driving 4 wheels is asking a lot, and I spotted one broken down just yesterday afternoon on Welshpool Rd.

Transplant the engine with one from a BMW motorcycle?

There was one being restored in Perth by a fastidious and talented man. I lost touch with this group when I got back into bikes 11 years ago.

Another one, which is a cheapish way to have project car, buy Mighty Boy. Put bigger motor in...

These, fitted with even something as uninspiring as the engine from a Daewoo Matiz would see it have double the power.

This could be a lot of fun, 1997 VR6 Golf.

    https://www.carsales.com.au/private/...525873/?Cr=281

    Basically a 170hp GoCart.

I've got to admit I've got a soft spot for golfs, I've had a couple of GTI's and was very close to getting an R32 but found that the V6 weight actually hindered the go cartness, compared to the turbo 4 in the GTI

    I wouldn't rate a vr6 golf
170hp (guessing at the flywheel) isn't really that much
Polo gti stage 1 has more power and will be a few hundred kg lighter

Curious, so had to google it...

    1997 Golf VR6, 1210kg and 128KW. The one above $4500

Mk1 Polo Gti, 2006, 1239kg and 110KW, found one in NSW and Vic for just under $5k

Pretty close, tuning either one could net healthy gains. But the VR6, just like the R32 may become more of a future classic, the Golfs of old were a lot smaller than what they are now, hence the need to release the Polo. All the safety crap they have to bolt onto cars these days does nothing but add weight and size.

Remember when the Honda Civic was a small car?

polo gti is sub 1200kg stock, I have weighed mine with a full tank at around 1180
The 110kw is severely detuned. They run 150kw all day with only a tune (the factory cup model came stock at that level).
The vr6 will never be a classic.
Edit: depending on the config, some golf iii vr6s are around 1350kg (actual, not vw numbers)

Don't get me wrong mate, you're alright in my books but for someone that has such strong opinions on basically everything and is not afraid to let all and sundry know in the most blunt way possible, you can be a touchy cunt sometimes.

    Post up something interesting.

I wouldn't mind one of these

I know a 1.6L Baleno engine doesnt sound like much, but compared to the stock this thing would most likely go anywhere and never get stuck.

Double the power of the original 1.3 carby, these go so hard.
A pretty easy engine swap too as the existing loom is basically plug and play with the 1.6.

MK5 is vastly improved over the mk4, the deep pearl blue is a "R" only colour and is more likely to be desired (colectable) in the future. If you can find one with miltec exhaust, you'll fall in love with the note
