    KTM RC390 Track edition

Browsing through the local auctions I noticed a KTM RC390 with what only looked like cosmetic damage (and no key). I kept an eye out on auction day and had to buy it at the price it sold for

I had not viewed the bike before bidding online but picked it up later that day. The steering lock was on and the fact it didnít have a key meant the Manheim auction staff had dropped it on to a pallet to move it around and had bent the front brake disc on the process. The front fairing stay was shattered, fairings were damaged and rearsets bent. I was happy with the purchase, no nasty surprises (so far).

First job was to remove the ignition and front disc so that I could move the bike around. Then stripped the fairings off.

Next job was to remove the ABS and use direct lines. The stock braided lines to the ABS unit were able to be re-used as direct lines which saves a little cash. It was a huge pain removing the unit! And noted lots of connectors on the wiring harness not connected to anything (seems like the RC390 uses a wiring harness that is likely used on other bikes)

It was now time to see if the bike would start. I borrowed a lock set off a friend, plugged it in and the dash turned on... 5949kmís on the ODO

Bike fired up as soon as I hit the starter rode down the street and clicked through the gears, everything working flawlessly.
Time to start ordering parts now. Iím not in a huge rush to complete this build but would like to have it finished by the end of the year

There are plenty of bikes here for you to have ďa flog onĒ while you wait
(A few days notice [max] to make sure I have decent tyres on it/them)

Swapped out the oem rearsets for a set of aftermarket rearsets. Pain in the arse since they use the swingarm mount/bolt so took a lot longer than swapping rearsets on most other bikes but nothing too complicated.
Rear brake reservoir delete also completed.

I ordered a pair of GB RACING engine covers, unfortunately the 2016 models did not fit despite the 2016 build date. Thankfully the seller exchanged for a 2017 model which fit perfectly.
(Bought on eBay from ďRated R PartsĒ, canít speak highly enough of the service & he really knows his stuff )

Adjustable and foldable levers installed. After snapping dozens of levers and not being able to complete races, foldable levers are a must! (for me &#129315

    A couple of small updates:

New brake rotor as the previous was warped from being thrown on the pallet

Set of fiberglass fairings from tyga

No real progress shots but expect it to come together over the next week in time for a tuning day on the 22nd. Still waiting on quiet a few bits and pieces before itíll be race ready though. Should get some updated pics soon

Trial fitted fairings after paint base coat applied. Really a huge pain in the ass having separate side fairings... these will likely eventually be fiberglassed to the nose cone permanently in the future.

Drained the oil, replaced with some fully synthetic. Dropped the coolant, flushed the system and refilled with engine ice (approved for racing) to keep the engine temp down and hopefully avoid the head gasket blowing (common problem)

Very mild damage to the oem front fender had me thinking to replace it with a fiberglass fender but the carbon fiber fender from tyga was only marginally more expensive than the fiberglass

Tyga header and twin exhaust fitted to hopefully squeeze a little more power

Attempted to start run the bike after fitting the exhaust but the bike keeps dying at full throttle or above 7K rpm. Ran out of time and patience today so will troubleshoot tomorrow with an aim to have the bike ready for the weekend.

Looks good, Looking to race 4?

Also, may be worth double checking the coolant, I didn't think either ethylene or propylene glycol were allowed.

I definitely checked MA MOMS, definitely approved they specify 3 or 4 different coolants that are allowed.
50/50 chance of actually racing it this year, wonít be raced until PCV & dynotune
