    Bike rental in perth

Fancied renting a bike for a long week with wife as decided to just have track and dirtbike in shed.
found a few places which hire decent touring bikes but i'm shocked by the day rate.$220 and upwards for bikes ranging in age from 2013 to 2016.
If I want pannier its extra, RAC recovery is extra etc etc. Excess is $2000.
value of bike ranges from $18k for triumph to I guess up to $30k for harley.

Been renting cars from a few from small companies in perth several times last year. 2017 toyota corolla $25 per day with $2000 excess, Thats a $25k car
    2017 Toyota Prado $69/per day thats a $50k - $60k car
Can hire a decent porsche for $250/day Over $100k car.
2 bed Holiday house in Margs $400 for weekend.
    Camper trailer/caravan hire $1000 a week.

So what am I missing with Bike hire and cost. Yes less people will hire bikes in winter so long off peak time so company has to cover that period. Is it just the insurance premiums pushing the price up for motobikes?
I'm not having a go at the bike rental companies as they have to be competitive to be in business and they are not charities. I'm just curious because for bike hire for long weekend is $1000 for a GS1200 which puts me off somewhat and starts me thinking I should just buy a 2nd decent jap bike for around $5kor a GS1100 for $7k..more toys which I'm trying to avoid.

i looked into the same thing for a euro trip im going on, $100 a day for a 5 series bmw or like $300 a day for a sportsbike with a $2000 deposit

the basic facts are your 10 times more likely to write off a bike than you are a car

i think the best way to hire a bike is to buy one then sell when your done

    Try this;

13 days in Canada in July on a R1200GS, no panniers is AUD $190.00/day + $8,000 damage deposit. Just booked it as it was the last bike left in Calgary.

In 2011 a mate hired a long term R1200GS for 14 days from Sydney (Cheaper the longer you hire) for $2,200 ($160/day).

I suspect pricing is a lot do do with competition.

There are hundreds of car rental places, with a nationwide pricing structure.

Iím guessing bike rental companies are a lot rarer, and will price accordingly.

In addition Im guessing their insurance cost and maintenace costs are likely to be a lot higher

Funnily enough I was looking into just this a couple of weeks ago as I was planning my trip (see here https://www.perthstreetbikes.com/for...=1#post3389080)

My original plan was to hire something a little more suited to touring than a zx10r. I wanted a bike for four days and that was going to cost at least $800. I realised pretty quickly that for that price I could buy the luggage options I needed (and get to keep them for future trips) as well as a new set of tyres after I inevitably put a lot of extra wear on them doing said trip. I'm not fussed about putting k's on the bike so off I went.

I just did a real rough calculation and I'm pretty sure the entire trip including accommodation, purchasing of luggage, fuel , food, etc. cost me about the same as what just the bike rental would of.

Getting a little off topic but I want to give a huge shout out to Overlander Adventure Equipment who helped me with luggage options. They were amazing and gave me lots of great advice along with bringing my bike into the store and helping me mount it all.
