Helmet Repair Quote - Where to go?

    Hey,

So long story short my AGV Pista GP was drop and damage by a third party i have been asked by their insurance to obtain a repair quote or a quote for replacement helmet and explanation why it can't be repair.

Does anyone have any idea who in perth who would be able to do this? My thinking is maybe a helmet shop someone like helmet house?

    Cheers

Do you have the receipt from when you bough it? I could be wrong but that might be a good start

you can get your helmet repaired at the same place that fixes seatbelts that are half torn.

You would need to find a retailer who stocks AGV and ask for a replacement quote. Give this to the insurer and insist that your single-use safety item be replaced. Helmet House didn't stock AGV last I checked.

If the insurer insists on a repair quote then ask them to direct you to the relevant specialist who is approved by AGV as a repairer. There isn't one. The insurer can contact the Australian distributor themselves to check. Make them put in the hard yards.

If the insured party has accepted liability and you've provided a replacement quote, it's up to the insurer to devise another means of repair - not you.

Sounds like this isn't a motor vehicle accident. I'm interested in the long story?

If your Pista GP is new, call Cullys they know the distributor's name and they have parts.

If it is more than 2 years old and the damage is the visor pivot plate/s you wont get a repair here. The distributor changed and does not have parts. The newer model parts do not fit.

    There's your start point.

I was told by a couple of US suppliers that I'll have difficulty getting the parts because of the age, mine is 3 (2 years for race helmets). I'm still looking, but not hard core as I got a new cheap helmet.

The new model Pista GP is something like $2000...

I loved mine and I cried when it broke. Well not really.

your helmet is made to a standard, whoever fixed the helmet would have to give you a written guarantee and test the helmet to ensure it met the relevant Australian safety standard to make sure its "fit for purpose".

I would think only the helmet manufacturer would be able to do that. They wont. its a write off get a replacement quote.

    ---- edit --
and the insurance company as overseeing the repair would also have to guarantee that THEIR repair meets or exceeds Australian standard for YOUR safety
I cant help it if your perceptions don't match my reality

Unless they can xray the helmet for hairline cracks or summat you'd never know/be able to guarantee that the helmet is the same pre-drop.
Cosmetics aside I wouldn't have thought you could "repair" a helmet due to the unknown hairline crack factor? I'd be seeking the advice of a helmet place and if they are indeed non-repairable, get a letter stating as such. I was led to believe helmet places don't do strap repairs? I'd say the same should apply to the rest of the helmet.

    Helmets aren't repaired, ever.

    Impact = Replace.

If it was damaged at high speed, you can't fix it. If it has just had some paint scraped off, a few quotes would help prove that a new helmet would be cheaper.
Keep in mind your head is in that if you crash and it is worth keeping it in top condition.

Why would you settle for a "repaired" helmet? You can get a new AGV helmet without the wank for $250 (delivered).

    thanks for the reply everyone.

It isn't a "motor vehicle accident" so i'm assuming the insurance company isn't that clue in about helmets which is why i think they ask for a repair quote. I've since spoken to a few places in perth and got it all sorted.

Sorted how? Replaced or able to be repaired and exactly what sort of damage was it for interest sake?
