No need for an in-depth study.
I was off bikes for 5 or so years. I got teh dum - I could feel my brain progressively slowing. Since I've been back on bikes, I've got less of teh dum. My brain's quicker and I'm thinking more deeply. There's also multiple flow-on effects.

So since being run over by a truck and writing off my R1 here in Vic I haven't got another bike and nearly two years on I'm the most depressed I've ever been I think. Actually struggling a little bit.

Yeah I was off bikes due to health issues. The first 2 years were the hardest as all I wanted to do was ride. I started to accept it over time and it got easier. But yes, depression definitely crept in and not riding was part of that despite my health getting better. Went through some fairly life changing stuff recently and I basically made a decision to challenge the rut I was in and so turn everything on its head, including getting back into riding. It definitely helps People also help - I have rediscovered friendships and their importance.
I prescribe another bike, and talking shit with friends The two usually go hand in hand.

I prescribe a dose of 2 wheels daily, with an occasional dose of one wheel added in

Is there a club nearby where you can assist in the pits for historics..?

Can you encourage a young dude / dudette to ride and help-train with yo' mad skills..?

If I were you..( Maybe steer clear of truck avoidence training....meh..? )

Get drone make race vids.... get famous as fuk....?

Yesterday I drove up in to Nundle NSW. I lost count of the number of ADV bikes riding in to town covered in dirt. They are on an organised ride through dirt. As we had lunch at the pub I observed to Mrs Lin the joy and laughter from the riders at table near to us. A scientific study not needed to prove the bleeding obvious.

Good study but as stated, didn't need to read it to know it's made me sharper not only on the road but in other situation too, definitely made me a better cager.

And as others stated, the extra effects not really covered in the study are real, including the yearning that turns to depression when you can't ride. Since starting on 2 wheels I think the longest I've ever gone without is about 2-3 weeks, and then it was when I was overseas and I just had to hire a bike (goldwings in vegas).

Also whats not really covered that I feel like a majority of riders do, is their own maintenance, which I know for some, like me, is practically a religion, I enjoy working on them about as much as riding them and thoroughly look forward to maintenance and mods. For myself and others I feel it often falls into the category of mindfulness, which I was recommended to do after a few sessions with a councellor years ago, it's a great way to destress, reflect, ponder etc. Plus the piece of mind you get, a bike really repays you in kind when you treat them well.
