I've just donated through The Salvos but Jaw send me a PM when you've got the sleeping bags sorted and I'll send some dosh through as it's very targeted to what I hope my donation achieves i.e. a blanket or similar to keep warm.

A bit of a thought bubble #Jaw , but if Tim was ok with it, maybe a psb shirt wearing brigade could organise a more personal blanket/swag/sleeping bag/ whatevs is important] donation to the local homeless people?

If it is sorted before my place sells and I'm off to Coober, count me in to help. [ just a suggestion and will do what ever I am able that you need to help your bloody great cause. ]

Do this , I don't want to put a dampener on helping anyone , but it's takes a lot of experience to give help to the people that really need it , as the ones that really need it never ask I am a big fan of the work the Salvos do and they make the most use of every dollar they get , Great thread 👍👍👍
I wont be back regards james.

2 More places that do great work with the homeless

    http://stbarts.org.au/

    https://www.unitingcarewest.org.au/i.../tranby-centre

They are generally self funded with a few hand outs from the Government.
However Ice/meth is making a big impact on the homeless as in there are more of them and its very unsafe out on the street due to the Ice problem.
Something like 80% of homeless people dhave mental health issues and 80% carey weapons of some description.

I try and talk with homeless people. Many have had good jobs, trades, military service and something has hit them.

St Barts as whowalks suggested has helped us out in my old job when we came across homeless. Mental health issues are a real issue. A person that had got over this himself told me the stress all day was finding somewhere safe for the night.

I also like the Orange Sky Laundry. http://www.orangeskylaundry.com.au A lot of conversation can take place during the laundry.

Jaw, Gordan and Grant (username escapes me) were out last winter, giving out packs that we had made up with money that was donated from family and friends and from me hitting up some businesses.

Let me know if you have a plan and what you need and we will be in to help out 🙂

It's great of you to want to help out. I applaud you for taking some action.

I did a care package run over Christmas and learned a few things.

Buying things that they have to carry - isn't viable for them. Especially if they're bulky.
Base layers that they could keep on for example, would be a better option. But they're $.

Or, donate to someone who can care for homeless people, or volunteer at a soup kitchen on something.
The sad fact of the matter is - even something as valuable as a good sleeping bag is an issue for them to carry around with them, and will be left.

A video went viral not long before Christmas where the dude included pillows.
He got video of them using it straight away which pumped up his tyres, but they tend not to get left when they move.

Our care packages (for hot weather) was simply some fruit, water, hats, easy to digest muesli bars etc... all in a reusable bag.
Cheap items that we could distribute to more people.

    Top effort Dude.

Last year the college where I work organised for over 200 people to attend various voluntary institutions to give back to the community.
I ended up at the Salvation Army kitchen and between 6 people made up approx 200 meals in a couple of hours, we supplied the meat and the vegetables were donated by sponsors.
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and was such a small part of our daily lives , makes you believe that every bit helps no matter how small or large !

On a side note the free food/soup kitchens that are out there to feed the homeless and have a policy of not turning anyone away.
Unfortunately Backpackers have figured this out and go there getting a free feed essentially supporting their holiday.

This is pretty Fucked.......... Basically taking advantage of these volunteer organisations and taking food out of the mouths of the less fortunate.
    Sorry small rant

Hmmmm GT visualises PSB'ers hanging out around these places and chatting to people and telling those who are looking quite well fed, groomed and speaking with accents to fuck off and stop bludging.😈

That could include the sniff test, if you get my drift.
