    Homeless people in winter

Had a sobering experience today 6am saw a homeless guy face down hands by side under a small blanket. Asked if he wanted a car free but no reply, figured Id leave him be. 30 mins later he hadnt moved so I called the cops to have a look, waking up to a random black fella with his hand on your throat checking for a pulse would probably give him a shock 😂

Turns out he had a feint pulse and the medic suspecting hed had a heart attack.

Wondered if anyone knew where locally I might be able to bulk buy some thick warm possibly even waterproof sleeping bags? Figured Id buy some and give them out wherever

A few years back I bought some on Ali but hard to gauge if shit or not. Hardly gonna save the thousands but is something I guess, I was cold last night him the place Im staying in (in Sydney) so he must have been freezing his hole off

kmart have sleeping bags for $10. Sure they're rated to 10 degrees, but combine that with a blanket and I reckon you'd be alright.

You can also donate $ to the Salvos and can specify where you want it to go i.e. homelessness.
Feeling the cold as much as I do, every year I donate something - I have a roof over my head and I still freeze.
Homeless rates in Tassie is very high - Perth is bad enough, but Tassie... unimaginable.
    Good work, Jaw.

Can you try and approach one of the big stores (bcf, anaconda ect) management to see what they can do to help you out?

Somewhat relevant, there's a YouTube channel I stumbled across called 'Invisible People' where a guy interviews homeless/displaced all around America.

Isn't there a company that makes those weatherproof sleeping bags that are donated to the homeless? Doubles up as a backpack. Can't recall now which, but a good cause to reach out to?

About as cheap as I could find with a quick search. If you do such a thing send me your details in a PM and I will happily contribute a bag or two or work something out?

I was in Europe for the 2017 winter with Ms boeman, was -5c or something and I kid you not, we both agreed that due to how windy it is here that we had experienced colder back home.

Cheers for the feedback, maybe it'd be good to just post general charities for the homeless like a few have done here so anyone who wants to donate to someone has a load of options - I deffo didn't know many of the hoes posted existed.

Will deffo check it out, at $10 it'd be 200 bags which would deffo spread around a bit

I'd love to do that if I didn't hate seeing my face on video so much. I bought a guy some breakfast when I was waiting for an interview with a client last year, as I was walking in to buy something and he asked for a coffee, was pretty enlightening hearing about him as a person and his background, certainly made me think about the initial thoughts that run through my head when I walk past someone on the streets

Ha, it's wierd - I'm from the UK originally - hate the cold hence why I live in perth now - but I do feel it worse here, maybe because we're used to the heat? The UK is going through a heatwave at the moment - all 27 degrees of it!

Awesome stuff, Will do, will deffo do something as soon as I find them at the right price

The more the merrier mate will post back here when some of the people I've contacted get back to me then anyone who's interested is more than welcome to help out either money wise or with helping to hand them out etc. I'll be putting in $1k or so, but if they end up costing say 20 each then obviously every extra bit is potentially an extra bag or two

    Will see how it goes

    Good work.

My credit card statement is due any day so I'll likely need a sleeping bag.

^ Genius! I'm going to spend a month buying health food, gardening implements and pot plants. Scan the statement and then just photoshop it each month with a new date. Knock off from work early and slip it in the letter box.

Great news. The credit card statement only had the bike service, tyres, draggins and a helmet on it. She doesn't know about the windsurfing gear.

Score one of these lightweight homeless people swag sleeping bag backpack things. Not on the credit card. If you pityfuck a socialworker you might get one for free.
