Having seen more comments and pondered this a bit more, perhaps there are bikes out there you could consider that just want to be ridden in a more relaxed way but also don't have to have so many drawbacks... like being a 300+kg lump with sub par power and engineering.

For example, I commute on a Duke 390 which I was considering trading for a Bandit 1250 with more kms on it from Speed Dealer (long story) - anyway when riding the Duke it loves to be ridden at 8-to-10 tenths, loves to be wrung out and flicked around, even though it's small capacity and LAMS it just begs me to ride the pants off it. In contrast every time I rode the big bandit all I wanted to do was schmooooooze and exploit that massive low end torque to get around, and there was more than enough power on tap if you do need it at the time of your choosing, I just so rarely wanted to choose those moments, it was genuinely relaxing.

Surely some other people here get what I mean?

I have previously mentioned that I would like to buy a brand new bike because I have never had one.
By the time this is likely to happen I'll be a ripe old age, so a Sportster is the preferred option at this stage, the Roadster looks pretty good to me. Of course you need to be of the right mind set, which means having no concern whatsofuknever about other people's opinions.
Having said that I would look very closely at the new Indian street legal flat tracker style among a few others.
Additionally I would have to question whether a Sportster is a cruiser or not?
Despite its name it is definitely not a sports bike and it does have one of Harley's better engine's and it's also got usable horsepower..

If you are worried about being called names because of the bike you ride then you deserve it.
    By the way.
I know a heap of chicks that are awesome riders .
    Get over it.

Also now you have me googling custom VRods, dammit...

Harley purist will hate this one... as it's made up of lighter components, and fitted with brakes and suspension that works.

Mate has an old red and black nightrod in Darwin, let me use it for a week. I liked it a lot. Enough power to get around and easy to ride lazy. Handles and brakes unlike the crap harley I had.

Would go there. (if I wasn't buying another laverda...)

    Full spaceship-spec

    Rest in Peace

    Vmax?

Not produced anymore, perhaps a motorcycle that will grow in value?

Always wanted one of these, one on gumtree at the moment. Have been wishing a miraculous spare ten thousand would drop into my bank for!

Sorry to get away from ops post but seeing were starting to drift a bit these are worth a watch if youre interested?

The motard suggestion is a good one too. Since ive had my xr650r its tamed me right out.....unless i get into some real tight twisties.....then i lose my mind. But no power wheelies over triple digits and blasting to supersonic. Its capable of long hauls too and after sprocket changes, easy 400km trip. Good thing to if your seat gets uncomfortable just get up on the pegs... no problem.

    I'm reformed now
TurboR1 as much as I'd love a V-Rod Muscle/Nightrod prices are generally north of 19-20k and a decent Forty Eight could be had for 10-14k. Only issue is the fuel range with the peanut tank

Interestingly looking at Bikesales, there seems to be more Harleys for sale than any other make.

That makes it a buyers market.
