When cars and bikes are pretty much all electric I'll be buying up, and stockpiling all the non-electric cars and bikes I can. Long live manual gearboxes and noise.

edit: and stockpiling fuel - that'll be more difficult.

<Fuck you and your Prius.jpg> unless we all go to solar we still have to generate electrickery the old fashioned way which isn't without its enviro impacts.

Lol, and how is Perth/Australia's electricity grid going to cope with that ? As Phildo said, give it 25 years.

Closest electric equivalent to my bikes can manage about 30-40kms per charge at 60-80km/h, so it's useless and twice the price. Technology will catch up, but 2018 will certainly not be the year it does. Put the tinfoil hat away
    Rest in Peace

I for one welcome electric Harley Davidsons... they'll sound much better.

Electric Ducatis will be the same as those with an ICE... catch fire.

Full Electric bikes are cool as shit, As soon as they get the battery worked out that there is a descent range they will take over. The rest of the world is already embracing them China has citys that no petrol vehicles are allowed, bit like the Internet, Australia is that far behind its not funny. It will come (so will the NBN), wont be next year but will be sooner than we all think.

I'm interested, what are the advantages of an electric motorcycle over the current petrol options for the average sports bike rider , say on a cbr600rr, and how much do the locally available models cost?

why are chinese banning petrol vehicles?

i have the nbn but my overall quality of life hasnt improved yet, am i doing something wrong?

The general market doesn't give a crap about electric vehicles.

Look at cars... Toyota has been selling hybrids for around 20 years now.

The hybrid cars (ie Prius and Camry hybrid) are sold to people who do not have anything resembling a soul or passion, and yet Toyota still manages to sell bugger all of them.

Honda has the Civic hybrid, and they only sell one or two a year because buyers are being sympathetic toward Honda.

    Electric vehicles are boring.

Really, really, really, really fucking boring.

So, you take a concept that's basically an automotive version of a bottle of Valium pills... and then apply that to something that's meant to be exciting (ie motorbikes)... it's like dividing something by zero.

Even people who go to bed at 9pm on a Saturday night aren't interested in electric vehicles.

If you build it people will... yawn.

I was surprised to find in Barcelona last year just how many electric vehicles there were around. Mostly small bikes and go kart type things aimed at tourists but there were a lot.

Range will always be the key to electric vehicles, a particular issue in Australia. In the UK you would never be more than a few miles from a charging point, we are a long way from that situation in Oz.

I would love to try an electric bike, the acceleration will be amazing.

They are coming, but it will be a while yet.

Tow truck drivers will love electric vehicles.

Instead of RAC details, keep a couple of $100 notes in the glovebox.

I was in Norway at the start of last year. I was really surprised to see charging stations for electric cars at every place where there was car parking. Even street parking. Mind you, the whole country is the size of Rottnest.
