“Crashing is shit for you, shit for the bike, shit for the mechanics and shit for the set-up,” Checa told me a while back. “It’s a signal that you are heading in the wrong direction. You want to win but crashing is the opposite. It’s like being in France when you want to go to England and when you crash you go to Spain. That way you’ll never get to England!” -- Carlos ChecaPara045 liked this post
Things have changed more recently on the parts front. There was no Aus distributor for a while. It took 8 months to get a new side stand a couple of years ago for mine which came in in the wrong colour and the shop staff just shrugged at me and said to take it or leave it. The dealer was incredibly negative about the brand in general and everything was a hassle. The arse fell out of the market for them when they changed ownership and lost the Aus distributor. That's also when warranties went to shit because there was no-one in Aus to honour them).
I was starting to get as cynical as Turbo... then I took my bike to Corse Motorcycles when they opened. They're awesome and I didn't wait more than a couple of weeks for anything through them. They're also passionate about the brand.
I didn't always love the bike (8 months downtime waiting on a part will do that) but mine was pretty much mechanically bulletproof. They're shit in the city, but get them onto a country road... ahh the memories!
My MV (a2008 F4) was the most reliable bike I've ever owned. Not so sure about the newer ones. You have to be a certain kind of person to own them, though. Don't get one if you want to sell it in two years. For most people I'd say just buy a japper. I did love that bike, though. It's kind of a love-hate-frustration-reward thing that I can't explain.
