    Searching for a Blue 2003 Honda VTR250 Rego # 1BM542

    Okay so I am getting holder, onto my second child and becoming more sentimental. I bought this bike new as my very first road registered motorcycle. I know its still in WA, I know someone is still paying her registration so she is likely still on the road. If any PSB'ers know who owns her now I would love to get in contact with them and let them know that when they feel its time to move her on I would like to be the next and final buyer. Any help would be great, I have seen many times how diverse and helpful this community is. For those that feel i am wasting my time or don't understand, that's cool, I don't understand sky diving but live and let live hey?
    To the mods, not sure if this should have gone in the two fiddy / lams section or possibly classifieds (been i a while since i posted) so correct me if you must.
    Cheers guys and girls.

    There's a few 2003 VTR250 on Gumtree, as it's a bike that is now 15 years old and might have changed a fair few hands I'd consider broadening your search to include other years and colours as you never know what has befallen it, and take into account people may be incorrectly advertising it. Additionally, others may be able to correct me here, but if a rego lapses and the plate is handed in, it may be repurposed on another bike, or the owner at any time can move a plate to another vehicle, a more accurate search would be with an engine or frame number;

    However failing all those, I am guessing we are chasing sentimental value here, and I get that as I have just purchased an old clunker which is no where near a match for modern machinery but was what I always wanted when I was younger and couldn't afford. As such if your search gets too long, there are many examples which fit your description and you may end up with a better bike.

    But I would start with the following;
    https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/land...250/1192189654

    https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/edge...250/1191730738

    2006
    https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/bent...ion/1192423598

    2006 again

    2007

    Thanks heaps for your response Turbo. I hadn't considered that someone could change the plates over to another vehicle in their name and of course you are right but would that be likely? Its just a generic plate after all, I can't imagine why it would suit one vehicle more than the other.

    I didn't think they repurposed plates but you might be right there also. Can anyone confirm?

    I had considered that it could be advertised incorrectly and i have kept my eye on gumtree occasionaly over the last couple of years but certainly could have missed it. Each time i find i likely candidate i try matching the VIN # which most people are quite good about.
    I am not sure if there is any benefit to posting the vin number here but i dont see the harm either so the last digits are 020786.
    Look I know its a bit of a long shot but having the plate still registered is a promising sign and i like a good long shot, you never know when you might get lucky.
    I am fortunate to have a bike in the shed that has sentimental value enough that i cant imagine selling it. After years of buying and selling way too many bikes its obvious that the bikes with that sentimental value are the ones that are worth having and working on, plus a couple of ujm's to throw around and buy and sell at my leisure would be nice.
    So that is the goal here, to find the one when no other will do. Though perhaps it wouldn't hurt to pick up a low km blue one and stick it in the shed just in case. Can't hurt to hedge my bets.
    Cheers Turbo.

    Oh wait... you meant that i should revs check using the vin number and not the rego number. Sorry, bit slow this morning but that is solid advice. Will do now...

    Thanks GSX. Appreciate the encouragement. I hear you, wives are great and often hold sentimental value but if it wasn't illegal to buy, sell or trade them...

    What a bummer. The vin # doesn't match. So close but no cigar. Thanks for your help though Tron.

    Thanks Forunna.
    You are right Wheel of Steel, it's a terrible add. I went and saw that bike to see if it was the one and because I was curious to see how well a VTR250 holds up after 60,000km's It's not the advertisers bike but his father in laws. The advertiser really doesn't know much about bikes as he is not a rider and doesn't hold a bike license so that is perhaps the reason for the poor advertising. The bike isn't all bad though and the add should mention that it is one owner from new, he has all paperwork including service history which is unbelievably complete, unfortunately the seat is torn, the rear tire has severely cracked side walls so it's totally rooted and there is a reasonable amount of surface rust on bits and pieces including the frame.

    Rather than start a new thread - In the meantime, while searching for the old VTR250, I have the opportunity to buy a mint GPX250. I picked out this little GPX for my mate to learn on about 5 years ago, he never took a lesson and it has done almost nothing since then so she starts and runs but wont idle because the carbs are probably a little gummed up (I assume). However, it has sat in my mates dining room (nice house but he is a bachelor so he can do shit like that the bugger) so its done about 13000km, totaly original, no dings, dents, scratches, surface rust or paint fade. It's about the 2005 or 2006 model with the black, green and silver plastics and I can grab her for $800.
    Now this isn't my only bike, i dont plan on riding it a lot and I remember how underpowered 250's can be. It is purely for fun and nostalgia, something to play with over summer and i know they aren't worth much but $800 for a tidy one? Cant go wrong surely.
    Lay it on me guys, what are your thoughts?
