    Cool Honda VTR 250 project

    Hi guys,

    I bought a motorbike recently, Honda VTR 250 (v2 sport 2007) and I want to do some modifications to personalize it a bit. I post here because I would like to have your opinion about a few things and to share my experience as some of you might be interested.

    STEP 1:
    - turn signals
    - tail light
    - hacksaw this ugly fender eliminator
    - rim stripe

    STEP 2:
    - Rizoma black handlebar
    - Rizoma grips
    - Rizoma brake fluid tank
    - lever/clutch

    STEP 3:
    - Change the muffler (black Akrapovic maybe)

    I will start the step 1 mid October/beginning of November. I don't know yet if I use some load resitor for the turn signals or if I take the tank off to change the relay. I never done it before, so I worry a bit about this, even though it looks pretty simple. Basically 3 bolts to unscrew, I will see.

    I will update this topic with picture once I started so you could see before/after.

    Also, I will reach the 12,000km soon so I have to do the service. I don’t know any garage in Perth so if you have any recommendations, I take it Is it worth it to go to Honda or any garage will do the job?

    The bike is in pretty good condition so I don’t really know what needs to be changed for this service.
    I might change the engine/gear oil and the air filter, clean/lube the chain but if you think about something else, please let me know.

    Today, I was riding and I experienced something weird. Around 6000t/min in gear 3 and 4 the bike start to «cough». I mean, it looks like there is too much air or fuel coming and the bike starts to accelerate/slow down/accelerate... Any idea of what it could be?

    Good and cheap mods. Make sure the FE 'mod' complies to ADR unless you want a yellow sticker.

    Same as above, unless you can find a decent aftermarket muffler for an absolute bargain.

    Use a relay and for the love of god please retain the OEM indicator connectors.

    These are a good option if you don't know how to solder or crimp

    Depends on where you are in Perth. The quality of service I got from my local Honda centre left a lot to be desired.

    Check your Owner's Manual. This will list how long until each service and what should be replaced or inspected.

    Air filters can be reoiled. Replacing engine oil regularly might be worth it. USE A NEW CRUSH WASHER EVERY TIME.

    Bad air-fuel mix or a multitude of other things. Take it to a shop.

    Cheers xor for your reply and your advice

    For the FE, I couldn't find anything on the net about the "rules". I read somewhere that you need to keep a reflector below the plate but that's it. I just want to put a smaller rear light and the plate right below. About the turn signals, I've already bought them on ebay but no worries I will keep the OEM just in case

    The muffler will only be for the style, I don't care about the brand. I just want something shorter and with a better look. I found some aftermarket muffler with the same style as Akrapovic for $50-70. I think it could work very well. If anyone has a muffler with a good sound, feel free to comment!

    I'm living very close to the CBD so it would be nice if the garage is not too far, even though it is not really an issue. I prefer to ride a bit longer and have a nice service/customer experience than be lazy, pop in the closest garage and be disappointed by the service. I actually find really hard to find good reviews on the net for motorbike garage that's why I'm asking your opinion. If anyone can recommend one, it would be appreciated.

    I found the workshop manual on another website, I will have a look to see what need to be done.

    Granted if the first two aren't made out of pure Chinesium (as they tend to be...) there shouldn't be a problem.

    Well, that and if you modify a LAMS bike in any way they could a) get you for riding out of class, or b) tell you to get it passed as an R bike and sticker it anyway. The game's rigged from the start.

    Just another reason to save your cash and put it into a bike you can modify on (slightly) more legal terms.

    Some day you will realise your hot pipe sounds like your arse the morning after a bad curry. Mods that improve performance and handling? great, why not.

    I've got 2 1200's with baffle out stock exhausts only because they don't choke in the top end rev range. They are loud. But both bikes look totally stock and even when I'm getting pineappled, there is no sticker to add to the pain.

    As mentioned, the combo is the problem. The trifecta is usually fart pipe, FE and tiny useless LEDs.

    If looks really are important maybe chop the fender and stick the reflector under the plate. See how you go. Then maybe add the muffler for looks but if you pull the baffle out and there are zero gains, put it back in.
