Read my 2nd edit - and probably should read the 1st quote in this thread.

    This is the important bit:
Existing R-E licence holders will be able to sit a PDA one year or more from the issue date of their R-E class licence to be granted an R class licence.

Those who obtain an R-E class licence on or after November 5 can attempt an R class PDA two years from the issue date of their R-E class licence.

Question, as Ive just been aware of this new 2 year waiting period. Does this also count for those who only had their learners permit for RE, before this new rule?

Not quite understanding your question, If you did not have your RE licence before the date then you will have to do the 2 year wait

I will have to do the 2 years then I believe. I didn't have my RE licence, just my learners permit, but got it in 2017.

Don't take this as gospel but if you had your learners permit before this was introduced you should be on the old system and only have the 1 year wait.

    DOT website says this:

    Learner's permit issued before 5 November 2018

You will continue under the system in place before 5 November 2018. You will
not be required to complete a motorcycle HPT or hold the learner's permit for a
    minimum period of six months.
If the R-E learner’s permit is your first class of licence, the Graduated Driver Training
and Licensing (GDT&L) requirements will apply (Minimum age eligibility, minimum
six months between learners permit and HPT, log book requirements and PDA.

Licence issued before 5 November 2018

Holders of an R-E class licence that was issued prior to 5 November 2018, may elect to sit a PDA to upgrade
to an R class licence after having held the R-E licence for a minimum period of 12 months.
If an R-E licence holder chooses to have supervised riding lessons on an R class motorcycle, a learner’s
    permit is not required.

edit (the way I read it):

RE license only attained prior to 5 Nov 2018
means RE period is 12 months only.(ie. on the old licensing system). Does not apply to permits.

Might be worth a phone call to DOT as it could be interpreted in two different ways.

Yeah, I may have to call in, because I read over this also but just talks about RE 'licence' holders rather than learner permits for these new rules. thanks

That's because the LP for an R class IS the RE licence

So what do you pay for that includes the price for your first test ? The thing that has “learners permit” written on it ?

C'mon Ryan even you can't be that dim and obtuse

They should really rename it Test Permit or just call it what it is "revenue raising" considering you no longer "NEED" the so called learners permit until you want to take the test and can legally ride an R class bike with an RE licence and shadow/instructor Just laziness and cash generation for doing nothing IMO just like their "stamp duty" and other charges

As Blazon posted, according to the written regs IF you hade your "RE licence" prior to 5/11/18 then you can get your R class and only do the one year on RE

As far as for your RE if I get what you're saying it's irrelevant as far as getting your R's, you will need to do 2 years after you get the RE licence

It has got to better than the present system.
I passed the BDR this morning returning from a sprint.
The BDR was heading South, I was heading North on Corio/Hopelands Rd and the fun bit.
I feared for my life. Several of the useless Cunts were my side of the lines through the Esses. A fucking side car and Harleys. One the straight bit there are no lines marked and they took 2/3 of the road width.
I’m cruising, one useless Cunt pulls out to pass a fuckhead on a sidecar and the others just follow. I’m coming down on them at 2.
They didn’t move or even look and consider there was a bike coming the other direction, how far away is it, have another look and determine what speed I’m fucking arriving at.
All motorcyclists. “Cages drive like Cunts.”
Fuck! You Cunts have a look at how the fuck you ride a motorcycle. You are fucking doing exactly the same fucking things you bag Cages out for.
I heard there were 300 on the ride. Great.
Unfortunately 100 rode like useless Cunts.

I was having the same problem. Spoke to my instructor and he said something along the lines of: because it's a live booking system, you should open a spare window on your computer and hit refresh every 5 minutes all day until something becomes available.

I managed to book one a few months away, and then also managed to re-book one a bit closer when it popped up. It's tomorrow BTW, wish me luck.

    Exactly that.

when i was booking my mrs test in september last year the only thing that popped up was may or just this year.
after sitting on the website refeshing etc for days on end checked the success site and suddenly a whole day of bookings popped up from 7am right thru till 3pm. all time slots on one day.
i grabbed the 11am one and upon confirming it was approved but almost all bar 2 were left. so they appear and disappear like fucking hotcakes. oh and that was for a day 1 week away from when i was looking. so super lucky.

edit: o yea. good luck mate

    So much this.

A heap of people die on motorcycles. Some are by idiot cage driver. The vast majority are via incompetence - either single vehicle accident (riding into shrubbery at speed) or riding retarded and being in the wrong place.
“Crashing is shit for you, shit for the bike, shit for the mechanics and shit for the set-up,” Checa told me a while back. “It’s a signal that you are heading in the wrong direction.
