Nope, best offer I have gotten from 4 dealers is $18,000. This thing cost $40,000 3 years ago. European cars apparently don't hold value

Donít have any of those in but I am a dealer so happy to help with any qs..

What spec of rs was it? They donít hold their value massively but donít let a dealer play the ĎI have to pay transfer and stamp dutyí etc - we donít the markup is usually a blend of profit and contingency of it needs anything doing under warranty etc and overheads - the bigger yards have big overheads generally.

Focus more on the change over ie the total saved off the new car and trade in rather than focusing just on the trade in as often theyíll bump up the trade in and give less of a deal on the new purchase to make it feel like youíve won.. (eg with an 18k trade in you might be able to shave 3 grand off the new car - sometimes if you push and get that extra 2k they might not reduce the new car etc so it's a bit of a balancing act)

Depending on where youíre buying from, try and get some freebies, if they do servicing, their actual cost of servicing is minor to them but has a larger cash value to you of a few hundred to a grand depending on what you neg, so it's a win win if that can sway the deal. If they put the screws on the trade in then insist on the new buy being immaculate, be really anal about it. Above all donít be afraid to walk away or sell the car privately. Some dealers offer low on trade ins purely because they will wholesale the car if itís something they arenít allowed to sell on their forecourt (less the case with an rs a few years old though) some just have high overheads etc. Can take a couple of months to move on a used skoda depending on the spec lists, each month costs the dealer, car needs a grand or two warranty etc and the buffer gets eaten up.

As a guide though I'd expect you could get around 28k privately but I'd expect to have it listed a little while..

FWIW out of your choices I think Iíd be most tempted by the rs but a good four to be choosing from 😍

I bought a 2011 Golf GTI in 2016 for $24K. Figured it would have done most of its rapid depreciating by then. Investigated selling it a year later - car yard reckoned $15K. Glad I ended up keeping it because it's a fun go kart.

More the dealers' business model than the cars themselves depreciating, I'd imagine the golf would have been on the forecourt for around $20-23k making the drop potentially about $2k

I bought an R6 a few years ago for 8k, 2 months later they had an r1 in that I loved so I said I'd take it - they bought the r6 back with an extra 400kms for 6,700.. I make that $3.25 a km!

50% over 3 years is probably right for most vehicles

side note... what's wrong with the Octavia? As it uses the "A" series platform which is basically the same as Audi A3, Audi Q3, Audi TT, VW Golf, VW Jetta, VW Eos, VW Tiguan, VW Touran, VW Scirocco and a few others.

So in theory you already have a Golf in your driveway. Except one that's cheaper to insure, service and run than any of the cars listed above.
Trying to think of a wise and sincere signature quote, but the only words that leap to mind are, "TITTY SPRINKLES"

You are right, there is nothing wrong with it, it is a great car. I just have that cursed "I get bored of cars/motorbikes every 2-3 years" syndrome. I ended up deciding to just keep it until the lease runs out.
