OK Chucksteak, did you get your bike? You happy with it? Enjoy your ride back?
Or did you meet some mates half way and decide you would not go back to Perth?
Life is NOT a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: "Wahoo!! What a ride!"

OK - confession time - I wussed out. I decided there were too many variables so I drove the ute down. I got a refund on my bus ticket too. This was actually the cheapest option too, as I run my ute on homemade biodiesel.

All was going well until I was almost at my destination and then I though "fuck me - this is probably one of those modern sports bikes without a centrestand. So I spent the last few minutes of the trip trying to work out how I was going to strap it down.

Anyhow, I got there and was pleased to see that it did indeed have a centrestand so that was first pleasant surprise. So I took it for a spin, and the transaction was done. Then I asked her why it didn't have a temp gauge, thinking it was water cooled as it had a radiator. She didn't know, but anythow with the help of her neighbour I got it up, strapped it down and was on my way. Halfway back as I was topping up the fuel I was looking at it and I couyldn't see a waqter jacket. So I jumped onto google and lo and behold the fucking thing is oil cooled! That apparently is why it;s so light and one reason why it won BOTY in 1999.

Anyhow I got it home and took it for a decent spin. First 6sp bike I've owned. And fuck me it's a nice bike to ride. Very light and nimble. Much easier bike around town than the brick. Oner thing that puzzled me tho is when I put the sidestand down the motor didn't cut out. My brick is 7y older and it has one. Maybe it's supposed to self-retract, but I've leaerned that those things don't always work, The only mod I intend to make to it is to change the switch block so I canb turn the lights off, as the whole lights-on thing shits me somewhat.

But other than that, i love my gixxer!

This reminds me of an unofficial record from years ago - around Australia by bike - 2W magazine were running it. The plan was you leave Melbourne GPO and see how long it takes you to go around the country and return to the same place. Two blokes on a couple of R100RS did it in 8 days, which was pretty fucking incredible.

But then some mad bastard knocked a day off it and did it in 6 days 22hr on a Z1300. Apparently he'd trained himself with zen meditation techniques so he could ride for hours without sleeping, but by the time he got back he was hallucinating, and was probably on some pharmaceuticals. But anyhow after that effort 2W called it off - they basically said itr was getting too dangerouus.

Good result in the end! Glad you got it home.

But I am struggling to recall any Gixxer (GSX-R) that ever had a centre stand, even the old lardy 1100 didn't have one. Or one that wasn't water cooled as well as oil cooled. What did you actually buy? A Bandit? as they can be seriously good hoon bikes.

Hmm maybe the centre stand cut out switch needs a clean up and some silicone spray, if there is one.

Bikes donít have a cut out switches on the centre stand, side stand sure but the point of the centre stand is so that you can put it on the stand idling in gear so you can lube your chain. Also itís very easy to ride off with your side stand down and not realise until you get to your first left hand cornerif thereís no safety switch on it. Not so with a centre stand as itís pretty hard to ride off with your back wheel 15cm off the ground.

Also you can ride down the freeway at 120 and stand on it showering three lanes in sparks at night.

I found a write up on the around Australi record. It's a good read. Turns out the 6d 22h record was broken. Staggers belief. That's an average speed (including stops) of 100kmh http://amcn.com.au/editorial/lap-map...und-australia/

Yep, it's low mileage and in good nick and just been serviced. Not the first bargain I've got on Gumtree

They're widening the freeway so I think the only solution is to fit flint stones to all centre stands.
