    Return to Bikes - YeeHa

G'day fellow Bikers. Getting Back into riding after a 10 year break and a couple of kids. Got myself an old sv650 to ease myself into it and get some skills back.

Great little bike, i'm having more fun on this than my last bike - a cbr1100. Like the old saying goes it's more fun to go fast on a slow bike than ............

Nice choice of bike. They've been known to embarrass riders on more powerful, hi tech bikes on the twisty stuff

    Welcome

I keep saying there's horsepower and there's usable horsepower.
    Welcome back to 2 wheels.

    They're ok I guess. Lol
Great little all-arounder... There's nothing you can't do on one really...prefer the naked one myself but I may be a little biased.

Me too, and for similar reasons. Only been back into it myself for about 6 months now. It's amazing to see the change in accessories technology - bluetooth communicators, rear cameras, and so on. Embarrassing myself a bit with my unfamiliarity, but the blokes on this forum are pretty understanding - after they tell you you're a fuckwit and laugh at you that is.

Got me an SV1000 - bloody hell, what a machine. Welcome back

Awesome bike! I had a mildly customised 98 titanium blackbird with twin staintunes, that thing would scare the shit out of me every time I rode it - very addictive. Worst thing I did was sell it but admittedly babies and bikes dont mix very well.
    Enjoy

Yeah mines a 98 TiBird as well No Staintune's on mine I had the std pipes for ~6 years and then picked up some Ixil slip-on's cheap
Most of my other mods are for comfort, VFR bars, Pazzo knock off levers, heavy bar ends, footpeg lowering blocks, Vista cruise control, upgraded fork springs and Wilbers shock for my weight Came with top box and panniers and touring screen which work well for me

They can really get up and go if you want to twist the wrist but can be really docile if you take it easy as well

I was lucky I did the house/kid thing before I got the Bird and was even encouraged to get the bike by the missus after a 10 year lay off

Shit I must have got that back to front...
After a lengthy lay off and relatively recent return to riding my skills are at a low level and as rusty as.
I just took the Rocket 3 up O'Briens and Clenton Roads, a slow run on a fast bike. Well I had fun...

[QUOTE=Green Trident;3405618]I keep saying there's horsepower and there's usable horsepower.

    That's a great quote,

With my previous bikes (Trident 900 & CBR1100) - any attempt at trying to utilise all that power on the street would always be followed by panic braking and near misses.

The SV650 has got me riding smoothly with good lines and using the gears and full rev range. I'm really enjoying those curvy roads a lot more now - with only 70hp.

Good to see you're falling in love with the little SV.

An extra couple of teeth on the rear sprocket won't hurt BTW.
Take it to a track day at Collie... You will be grinning for days. Spirited urban riding seems to suit the bike to...so I've been told. 😉
