I think my best one was back in the UK. I'd gone home the previous day feeling a bit "sick" but soon perked up and decided to go for a drive and catch up with a friend for ............................!

Anyway, the following morning I was too rooted (literally!) to even think about driving back to work so I start thinking up excuses none of which I needed, as work asked the one question I didn't have to lie to!

Me: Good morning.
Work: Are you still in bed?
Me: Yeah
Work: Ok - take care and see you Monday.

The fact that I was in someone else's bed, 100kms away didn't even need to enter the conversation ;-)

ok my best effort, was on compo for 3 slipped discs in my lower back, was back at work on light duties, so pushing paper, thats so much fun in a nursing home..

anyways, this massive ride had been organised and i wanted to go, dam working weekends, anyways i wake up, get geared up meet up with the guys, ring work while standing next to the bike running and say " sorry wont be in back is so sore i cant get out of bed" loved having a continual medical certificate, anyways never got caught, except for the day i rode to work as car was broken then got my arse hauled across thehot coals for riding while on compo..

mum and dad didnt know they thought i went to work... and joined in after work.

yeh mum i joined in half way on a 800km round trip from wollongong to putty road out the back of sydney at wisemans ferry and home again.. love ya mum..

If you can do it by SMS it makes it so much easier. "Bit sick today, can't make it in, sorry." Is so much easier than a phone call because you can't plan their responce.

I decided at the last minute not to go into work one night and didn't bother to call/sms. So when they asked me where I was the next day, I just told em the truth. I was asleep in my girlfriends bed. Hehe. No further questions followed.

My Dad used to use "I've got heart problems"
As in... he didn't have the heart to come into work!
'swish' .... that's the sound I hear as everyone rides past me!

Gastro/Shits works a treat, having to go to a "funeral" works aswell, got a few leave days without even having to fill out any leave forms or take any of my leave days either for that one.

One of my best mates used the following.

Friday: Can't come in...my girlfriends gran just died.

Wed/Thur Following week: Can't come in...girlfriends gran's funeral.

Two days off in great summer weather, no reduction to his allocated leave and girlfriends gran still alive.

Aawww you guys are just sick.
try this one...
YOU: I'm having problems with my eyesight...
BOSS: Whats the problem...
YOU: I cant see myself coming in to work today!

Seriously, If you're feeling crap, you are a waste of time to the job. Piss off and and go scratching. The next day you'll rock up fired up out of your mind! Trust me. Just hope you have a simpathetic boss!!
If you were my employee I'd tell you to go home for the day and do the thing that you enjoy the most and than come back tomorrow with a new mindset. Pity I ain't the boss!!

Mother of all thread revivals 2006!

Slightly off the topic in OP:

Son brought home gastro from 2nd day in preprimary.

We all get it despite best efforts to avoid bugs.

Employer asks for med cert which is a total waste of time, money and 3 trips to the doctors toilet.

I mean seriously docs will write a note regardless if genuine or not.

For those of us genuine ones, it costs potential lost income and coin for the doc to boot.

Fuggin retarded polices.... /rant

Gippo med cert or stat dec will suffice if they ask you for proof.

Not sure on how it works, but the pharmacy near my work has a sign up saying "Medical Certificates for work available here".

I am guessing trying to take a load off the local GPs. Pretty handy, perhaps try your local.

Mobile after hours, bulk billing docs are great for medical certs. On a few occasions I have been too sick to actually get myself to the docs so this was the perfect solution, and bulk billing too.

Correct, but not all pharmacists will issue one. A mobile bulk billing doc would be the easiest I'd say - especially when you can't risk being in a combined space with no dunny for 10 minutes.

I've used one before. They ask you a few questions, then sign a pre-written letter.
