“The most certain test by which we judge a country is really free is the amount of security enjoyed by minorities.”

Hey, at least we are talking about it. Not torturing and beheading our minorities, forcing our child daughters into sex slavery through arranged marriages and violently imposing those views on the society around us.

Apart from dickheads shooting their argument in the foot by headbutting brainwashed fundamentalist former Prime Ministers, we're a pretty good society.

2016 Census survey (if you trust it):

    46,800 SS couples.

This is 0.4% (rounding up) of the population.

And your point being? We know that they are a minority, possibly the same sort of representation as Ducati riders.

Why does that make it ok to deny the same rights that I have?

Sure, why not. As a Ducati rider, do I not have the right of going un-taunted for riding a Ducati?

    Yeah, me too!
After 31years of marriage my marriage will now become meaningless.
I won't know if I married a bloke or not. I'll have to keep checking, I guess. Not that I mind checking all that much.

My daughters boyfriend is going house to house in their area, offering to post people's yes votes for them but leaving the no votes to their own devices.
Personally, if I was going to go to all that trouble I reckon I would be offering to post both sides, then binning the 'no's.
He and my daughter have agreed not to get married until his (gay) brother can get married too.
If the yes goes ahead it's going to cost me a fortune....

31 years? Damn, beaten. I've only done 30 years of the sentence so far.

Disappointing is no one seemed to pick up GreenMeanie s perverse duracell joke. Was hoping it would set up for a Friday threadjack.

Do you lose your shit when people talk about the marriage of arts and science?
How about the marriage of sweet and salty flavours?

Maybe you should go live under a rock with the other like minded folk. I’m sure the rest of my family would gladly take you under their shortsighted wings.

why for you say that? didn't he say that he thought same sex partnerships should have the same rights but use a different word for it? Isn't that positive outcome, a compromise?

So are you after equal rights or the right to use the word marriage? Or does it have to be both or nothing?
I cant help it if your perceptions don't match my reality

My opinion; couldn’t care less who marries who and it shouldn’t be up to anyone but the couple to decide so yes is my vote.

Pointing out that his attachment to the word is a little silly given it’s not just used for people.

you didnt answer the question. Are you after equal rights or the use of the word marriage, which one is more important, or does it have to be both or nothing?

I'll answer that question, without it being called exactly the same thing and having the exact same rights we will still be classed as lesser citizens of this country, every other country that has achieved marriage equality has called it a marriage so Australia can too.

Glad to hear that. However, my guess is that the bigots will win because people most who don't care what other people do in their bedrooms, will not bother to vote.

    I hope I'm wrong.

All arguments aside, let's just watch what changes to a myriad of Civil acts will try to be introduced by the slimey underbelly that is our Federal Govt.

The next chapter that will be days of someone else's lives...
Sventek, being a predominantly lazy fuck can you please purchase some for me, bring me the stuff, create something I want after you think of it for me then clean my house, wash my car, dog, bike breathe for me.

I hope so too, but many voted with their dollar on this issue - http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-09-2...ow-out/8975130

so maybe that hope is well-founded.

So.. if you don't think gays should be able to marry, you're a bigot?

no. regardless of whatever your overall views and beliefs, if you do not tick the yes box and return it then yes you are a bigot. That is now my understanding.

I just received this by text message.

    * The marriage equality survey forms have arrived!

Help make history and vote yes for a fairer Australia.*

I don't need to be texted by anybody to decide what I'm going to vote if I do at all.

Fcuk Off with your annoying shite..

I'd rather they spent the money on Health Care and Hospitals.

    That's FAIR for everybody...
