Whilst I'm sympathetic to the LGBTQ rights issues, I also cringe (as a father of primary school children) when I see straight couples romancing/kissing in movies.

I accept children cant (and should not be sheltered) from such innocent acts but surely some discussions such as the "love is love" one can be reserved for mid teenage?

How does a balanced parent begin to explain to a 6yo why its ok for Elsa to be romantically involved with another girl.

These are mature themes and surely should be reserved for a mature (15+) audience?
I think it would be great if she was more outwardly cheerful instead of the depressed ice queen she is.

    Just let it go Gippo.

I remember watching Rocky Horror (which was "R" when it came out by the way when I was a child) at 07:30 one friday night with my 11 y.o. son and thought I would have a chat about Frank N Furter before he made his entrance. I started to explain he liked to wear women's clothes. Son looked at me aghast and said "So, he is a cross dresser, so what?"

Why would it need explaining? There's nothing not ok about it

    ^^+1 This.

I am a big believer that kids aren't born racist/sexist/homophobic, its a product of their environment and experiences.
I grew up watching Benny Hill, Kenny Everitt and Aunty Jack. They weren't gay, trans or cross dressers, they were just funny people. I talk to my kids the same way.

Nobody knew Bert n Ernie were gay. They were portrayed as buddies... at least thats what I thought growing up.

Now if they hugged and kissed.... that mightve given the game away...

    1. You certainly weren't sympathetic to LGBTQ+ people in the gay marriage thread so I find this funny.

    2. You control the majority of what your children see and absorb on a daily basis. Be a parent and accept that you may have to explain some things.

    3. The same way to explain to them about heterosexual relationships, which they probably have already seen plenty of.

    4. If you consider a homosexual relationship to be more of a mature theme than a heterosexual one then you're starting off on the wrong foot in the first place. If "Daddy why does that man live with that man" is any different to "Daddy why does that man live with that woman" in your household then you are creating the problem for yourself in the first place.

Hippo must have missed the Bert and Ernie in bed scenes.

Younger primary are usually not sexualised so unless attention is drawn to two people sucking face then to a kid, they are just kissing.

If older primary kids have a problem with it, there are going to be more serious issues than homo hangups.

+1 I'd be surprised if they took the risk that a large section of the notoriously conservative US audiences would boycott it

I guess Ernie & Bert aren't the only ones

My favourite was when one of my sons was walking home with his mum in grade one or two and asked when dad was moving out.
Ms Chew said "what do you mean?"
"When is dad moving out so I can have a room at home and another room at dad's like the other kids?"

This was amusing until I thought about it, then I found it profoundly sad that he was feeling different because mum and dad were still together.

If we want to raise well adjusted children I think this is an issue that needs attention not whether they have two dads or two mums.

It was indicative of our open talks with the children. Though the little shit lagged me up once on a walk with Ms Chew and his little bro. Someone did a burnout in a carpark near Tomato Lake where they were walking. He watched and then told Ms Chew "Dad does better skids than that in your car mum."

Yeah we never bothered to stop shagging when our 6yr old used to walk in on us, couldn't do that much harm right
It did take a while till he stopped asking why I wanted to keep "coming" in the back door though

    Talk about easily trolled!

Happy Tree friends. Used to watch it with one spawn who is now doing fine at uni. Another spawn corrects me using phrases like totally gay, poofters etc.

Their buttons are being pressed intentionally. Unreconstructed dinosaurs need inclusion too, hey Gippo.

    Well trolled Sir.
