I'm going to have a little extra cash towards the end of July/early August and I'm going to bite the bullet and finally buy an SSD, anyone have any recommendations?

I've read a few reviews and apparently the Samsung 860 Pro 1TB and the WD Blue 3D NAND are both quite good

I currently have the Samsung 850 EVO 500GB. I've had it a few years now and it's been my primary ssd in my last two builds. It is the older model but I really cannot fault it. The Samsung's have a very good reputation (SSD's at least, I can't stand their phones) and quite a good warranty in the rare case anything actually does go wrong with it. You might be able to save yourself some $$$ by going for a EVO instead of the PRO. Do your own research as to the differences between the series but I remember it being pretty marginal and not worth it IMO.

Have a look into SATA vs M.2 drives.

Most SSDs these days are faster than the SATA interface will allow.

M.2 from my understanding is directly connected to the PCI lanes and alot faster.

You are correct, M.2 is a lot faster than SATA however it does require a pretty new motherboard or a PCIe adapter. If it's just an upgrade for an existing computer I doubt it would have the slot, but definitely worth checking

Yarp, it's an older machine, built it just prior to the arrival of Venkman Junior and has served me well, she's now at that age where an upgrade is well overdue, hopefully around christmas is when i'll be able to afford it
